Five years after it released on consoles and PC, Payday 2 returns to bring heisting on-the-go to the Nintendo Switch this week, while its publisher, Starbreeze Studios, is looking to iron out a way to give players the chance to communicate and organize their heisting wherever and whenever.

In a statement to Kotaku AU, a spokesperson from publisher Starbreeze Studios stated that “we are waiting to be able to participate in Nintendo’s VOIP app solution,” and added that “as soon as we are given the go-ahead, this is definitely on our list to look into to update.”

This of course is in reference to the Nintendo Switch Online app that Nintendo introduced last summer with the release of Splatoon 2 to give players an option for online voice chat for multiplayer. Currently, Splatoon 2 is the only game that supports the feature since it was released.

While the lack of voice chat on the Switch itself might hinder the experience of Payday 2 on the system currently, Starbreeze’s spokesperson explained that while the company is waiting on Nintendo’s word to use its official voice chat app, Starbreeze does offer an official Discord server that players an utilize to meet, communicate, and organize games online as an alternative for the time being.

Payday 2 is available now on Nintendo Switch in Europe and launches tomorrow on the US, and is also available on PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and Linux. For more on the full game, you can read our recent impressions of the Switch version.
