Smite Season 5 Conquest Map Changes Explained in Behind the Scenes Video

Now that eUnited has taken home the Smite World Championship 2018 trophy, fans and competitors in and of the game alike can continue talking about the upcoming changes to the conquest map in Season 5. With significant aesthetic and mechanical overhauls, Hi-Rez Studios decided to go behind the scenes in one of their latest videos to explain exactly why these changes are happening.

On the whole, the studio explains why the map has gotten so much bigger than in previous seasons. They note that players competing in a battle of the gods want battles to feel more epic, thus it was important for them to slow down the pace of the game. With a larger–and more menacing jungle– the team is hoping to slow down rotations between the lanes by re-introducing jungle fog and more narrow twists and turns into the map.

On a more thematic note, Hi-Rez is hoping that the Greek-centric map, spanning from cyclops replacements to new Titans, will lend itself more naturally to being a battleground for the gods according to Executive Producer Chris Larson. Plus, the newest god Cerberus will be happy to know that his home, the Greek underworld, finds itself realized in-game as the new Chaos side of the map.
