Nvidia Announces Freestyle to Apply Filters to PC Games while You Play and More

Geforce Experience, News, Nvidia, Originals, PC

During Nvidia’s CES Press conference, the graphics card manufacturer announced new features for its Geforce Experience client starting tomorrow (January 9th).

Shadowplay Highlights will be supported by four new games, including Epic Games’ Fortnite Battle Royale. The Ansel feature got a new UI, and eight new filters have been added, alongside the ability to mix different filters.

Speaking of filters, the most interesting feature is probably Freestyle, that lets you apply post-process filters to supported games while you play via the Geforce Experience overlay.

This includes fifteen different filters with 38 presets, including dramatic ones like HDR. You can find the list of supported games here and a list of filters below.

  • Black and White
  • Color
  • Colorblind
  • Contrast
  • Details
  • Exposure
  • Half Tone
  • Mood
  • Night Mode
  • Retro
  • Sepia
  • Vignette
  • Depth of Field
  • Special FX
  • Adjustments

It’s definitely interesting, as it’s implemented at a driver level, and does the job for which you used to need cumbersome injectors.

Some interesting settings include a dedicated mode for that will help colorblind players see a clearer picture and a Night Mode that reduces blue similar to what is built into mobile phones. It’ll basically let you sleep easier after gaming all night.

In order to get the new features, you’ll need to download the new version of Geforce Experience (3.12) and the new Nvidia driver (release 390), when they become available on January 9th. You’ll also need to activate the “Experimental Features” option in Geforce Experience‘s settings.

I don’t know about you, but for me, this is definitely more interesting of the announcements that we got last year.

Below you can check out a trailer showing the new features, and a second video introducing some massive 65-inch 4K HDR displays for PC gaming, that were also introduced at the show.
