As one of the year’s most acclaimed games, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was already massive in scope and got even bigger with the introduction of “The Champions’ Ballad” DLC and the Master Cycle Zero, with several of the game’s lead creatives giving a closer look into the creation of the mythical vehicle.

Speaking in an interview with IGNThe Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma and game director Hidemaro Fujibayashi provided some deeper insights into the Master Cycle Zero, a new vehicle that players can earn towards the end of the recently-released “The Champions’ Ballad” DLC for Breath of the Wild.

Specifically, one of the most interesting facts that the duo dropped was that the team utilized some of the assets from Mario Kart 8, which included the “Master Cycle” as a vehicle for Link. However, Aonuma explained that the game’s development team used some of the designs from Mario Kart as inspiration and then “kind of just had it run through the Hyrule world” to result in the final design for “The Champions’ Ballad.”

As far as the concept for the Master Cycle Zero, Aonuma elaborated that the team thought that the vehicle “should be something from the past” that uses “ancient technology,” adding that they approached it as being the first Master Cycle.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available now for Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
