As November 14th is giving way to November 15th across the world, Square Enix is rolling out the “Comrades” multiplayer expansion of Final Fantasy XV.
The expansion is already available in Japan and should be released in the next few hours sequentially in Europe and then in North America.
The expansion is actually tied into the story of the main game, and precisely after chapter 13th, with players taking the roles of remnants of the Kingsglaive special unit of the kingdom of Lucis.
The story begins in the city of Lestallum, where many quests are available to expand on the story of the game. Players can choose the protection of one of the ancient kings of Lucis. Depending on the choice, their character will receive specific abilities.
Multiplayer quests are of various kinds, including suppression, defense, and escort. It’s possible to organize a party of four with friends or to play alone with AI-controlled bots.
Incidentally, we’ll also be able to interact with familiar characters from the main story, including Iris Amicitia. As you progress through the expansion, you can go to other towns and meet with other characters.
In order to play, you’ll have to either purchase the expansion (duh!), or have the Season Pass. PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold are also required, alongside the latest patch of the game, numbered 1.18.

A few weeks ago, we also learned that the main game will keep receiving new content next year, past the original plan to end in 2017. The upcoming Episode Ignis story DLC will also come on December 13th, and it recently got a new trailer at Paris Games Week.
Final Fantasy XV is currently available for PS4 and Xbox One, and will launch for PC on Steam in early 2018. If you want to learn more, you should read our recent interview with Director Hajime Tabata.
